Signs That You Need A Root Canal
Many people are afraid of root canal because they think that it is painful. But actually, you don’t have to worry if you have to undergo this treatment because it is relatively painless, thanks to advances in dental technology. Root canal is a simple procedure wherein the dentist removes your tooth’s damaged soft, abscessed tissue. After which, they will clean and disinfect the damaged area and then fill and seal the tooth. To know whether you need a root canal, here are a few possible symptoms.
Tooth Pain. Strong tooth pain doesn’t always mean that a patient needs a root canal treatment immediately. However, if you are having an intense and sharp toothache, a root canal may be considered. This type of pain is different from the others as it gets worse when eating or biting down.
Sensitivity. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to undergo a root canal procedure if you are having tooth sensitivity. Nevertheless, if you are experiencing prolonged sensitivity to hot food or liquids, this could be a red flag.
Swelling and Gum Tenderness. It’s not only the tooth that shows symptoms, the gums do too. The gums near the aching tooth may show signs of needing a root canal. Usually, these gums are painful, swollen and may have a small raised bump on them. The swelling can last for days or even months.
If you are experiencing any of the signs mentioned, it is important to seek the advice and treatment of a dentist as soon as possible. Only your dentist can determine if a root canal will adequately treat your problem.
